In this meeting, Vice Rector 3, Prof. Poppy A.Z. Hasibuan, M.Si., provided material entitled "Strengthening and Development of the World Class University Program at Universitas Sumatera Utara". This material conveyed that there are five components for international ranking: QS WUR, QS AUR, THE AUR, THE IMPACT, and Webometric Ranking.
The ranking of Universitas Sumatera Utara has increased every year. Two strategies are carried out to achieve international university standards: internal strategies (priority programs of the Rector) and external strategies (development programs and Tridharma development programs set by the Ministry of Education and Culture).
To realize these internal and external strategies, the role of the head of the study program is a must. Study programs have an important role for USU to be able to reach the international world. Therefore, every study program person at USU must cooperate with the international world internally and externally. In addition, there are three main indicators of World Class University, namely reputation, teaching quality, and Internationalization (Internationalization is calculated from the number of collaborations with other countries).
USU has implemented international programs, including Inbound and Outbound student exchange programs, Summer Courses, Top Scientist Webinars, Guest Lecture, International Mobility Staff, and Sabbatical Leave.
In 2023, the national university ranking was raised to 21 PTN-BH, so it is hoped that Universitas Sumatera Utara can be included. For the international scale, the target of Universitas Sumatera Utara is to be included in the 1000 rankings.
