Malaysian Consulate General Visit to the Universitas Sumatera Utara, Discussing Potential Cooperation

Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) received a visit from the Consulate General of Malaysia on Monday (25/03/2024) at 14.00 WIB. The visit was led by Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., Rector of Universitas Sumatera Utara, who was also accompanied by several high-ranking USU officials such as Prof. Dr. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, S.Si., M.Si., Apt. as Vice Rector III, and Prof. Dr. Eng. Himsar Ambarita ST., MT. Director of the Directorate of Internationalization and Global Partnerships, Prof. Dr. Rudy Sofyan SS., M.Hum. Head of the International Affairs Office, Prof. Rikson Asman Fertiles Siburian, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D. International Program Manager, and Dr. Arida Susilowati S.Hut., M.Si. Manager of the Directorate of Internationalization and Global Partnerships. Shahril Nizam Abdul Malek, a representative from the Malaysian Consulate, and his colleague also attended the visit.

In the audience, both parties made introductions and discussed the potential for cooperation between USU and the Malaysian Consulate General. Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., welcomed the visit from the Malaysian Consulate General and affirmed USU's commitment to enhancing international cooperation. 

"Indonesia and Malaysia already have strong bilateral relations. This visit provides an opportunity for us to facilitate cooperation in education and research with partners in Malaysia," explained Muryanto.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, S.Si., M.Si., Apt. Added, "We hope this visit can be a starting point for closer cooperation between USU and institutions in Malaysia, especially in academic exchanges and joint research."

Shahril Nizam Abdul Malek, representing the Malaysian Consulate General, conveyed the purpose of his visit, "We hope that through this meeting, we can further explore opportunities for cooperation between Malaysia and USU, especially in the fields of education and tourism."

In addition, both parties also discussed plans to draft an official cooperation document, such as an MoU, which will be the basis for further cooperation in various fields.

This visit is expected to pave the way for broader cooperation between the Universitas Sumatera Utara and the Consulate General of Malaysia and enhance understanding and bilateral relations between two countries that have close historical and cultural ties.
