Vice Rector III for Research, Community Service, and Cooperation of the Universitas Sumatera Utara opened the Info Session for PhD Programs by three universities in the Netherlands on Wednesday (28/02/2024) at the Multipurpose Hall of the USU Faculty of Psychology. This event aims to provide information and direction to Young Lecturers about advanced study opportunities in the Netherlands through scholarship programs to improve the quality of Human Resources in the campus environment.
Several presenters at this event were competent in their fields. One of them was Gentha Sally Amita, Outreach and Promotion Coordinator of PhD Consortium Indonesia. She said, "This event makes a meaningful contribution to increasing access to quality education, especially for lecturers at Universitas Sumatera Utara."
Rosalia Damayanti, Education Promotion, Indonesia Representative from Leiden University, the Netherlands, also shared her views. "The importance of choosing universities and majors that match interests and talents was also highlighted in the discussion to ensure that every step taken is the right investment in the educational journey," she said.
The event allowed participants to gain insight into the various master's and PhD programs available in the Netherlands. It also provided information related to scholarships that can be accessed. Participants were also taught about various scholarship programs, such as the LPDP Priority Scholarship, Regular LPDP, Erasmus+, and Security Studies.
The importance of practical experience in the working world was also discussed. Permission for students to do internships or part-time jobs for 40 hours per month was one of the information conveyed to participants, allowing them to develop practical skills.
The information and motivation provided in this event will hopefully encourage more lecturers to pursue advanced study abroad, thus positively impacting academic development at USU. Through this event, we hope to continue supporting lecturers in their efforts to improve the quality of education in Indonesia.
