The University of Sumatera Utara (USU), in collaboration with the Academy of Entrepreneurs, officially launched its first Training of Trainers (ToT) GreenPreneurship program on Friday, September 19, 2025. This training program will take place from September to October, consisting of five online sessions conducted via Google Meet.
Prof. Dr. Apt. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, M.Si., Vice Rector for Research, Community Service, and Cooperation at USU, opened the program with high hopes that it would run smoothly and provide valuable insights for lecturers in developing social impact enterprises. She also emphasized that this initiative serves as a strategic step to strengthen entrepreneurship courses within the university. “We hope this training provides meaningful insights for lecturers and can be integrated into USU’s entrepreneurship learning process, especially in shaping environmentally conscious entrepreneurs,” she remarked.
During the ToT, participating lecturers received training materials, modules, and video login access to review the lessons independently. In particular, lecturers teaching University Compulsory Courses (MKWU) are encouraged to use this program as a foundation for academic development and to monitor the progress of their students who participate in related projects.
The first session introduced the topic “Green Mindset and Local Challenges.” This session explored the concept of green entrepreneurship, shared global examples of sustainable business practices, and discussed local environmental issues—along with how to address them through sustainable business solutions aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
GreenPreneurship, developed by the Academy of Entrepreneurs, is an internationally recognized action-based program designed to inspire students to transform global environmental challenges into eco-friendly business opportunities. It also provides a practical platform that equips students with the mindset, tools, and skills to build real and impactful sustainable ventures.
At the end of the program, lecturers participating in the ToT will receive official certification from the Academy of Entrepreneurs. Through this GreenPreneurship initiative, USU aims to instill sustainable entrepreneurship values in its students while contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through active participation in education and innovation.
