Universitas Sumatera Utara and Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) SUMUT I Regional Office Renew Memorandum of Understanding

Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) and the DJP SUMUT I Regional Office renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Wednesday (17/07/2024). The event occurred in the Academic Senate Meeting Room, 3rd Floor, USU Rectorate Building, marking the continuation of the previous agreement, which ended in April 2021. USU Rector, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si, and Head of DJP SUMUT I, Arridel Mindra, carried out the signing.

Also present were the Director of the USU Directorate of Internationalization and Global Partnerships, Prof. Dr. Eng. Himsar Ambarita, S.T., M.T, the Director of the USU Directorate of Education Development, Ikhsan Siregar, S.T., M.T, Dean of FISIP USU, Hatta Ridho, Vice Dean I of the USU Vocational Faculty, M. Husni Thamrin Nasution, Vice Dean III of the USU Vocational Faculty, Gustanto, Head of the USU Diploma Program in Tax Administration, Faisal Eriza, Secretary of the USU Diploma Program in Tax Administration, Henry Sitorus, staff of the USU Tax Centre, Indra Efendi Rangkuti, and other faculty members, as well as students.

 

Officials from the DJP SUMUT I Regional Office, including Lusi Yuliani, head of the Socialization, Services, and Public Relations Division (P2 PR), and Tengku Amiliza, Head of the Socialization and Document Management Section, attended the event.

 

In his speech, Arridel Mindra expressed hope that the USU Tax Centre, established on November 25, 2008, and becoming the first tax center in North Sumatra and outside Java, would continue to play a role as a strategic partner of the DJP SUMUT I Regional Office in the fields of education, socialization, and tax research. "We hope that the USU Tax Centre can play a role in fostering public compliance and awareness in fulfilling their tax obligations," he said.

 

USU Rector expressed gratitude for the willingness of the DJP SUMUT I Regional Office to continue the collaboration that has been in place for 16 years. He hopes that the guidance and direction of the DJP SUMUT I Regional Office will continue to support the development and empowerment of the USU Tax Centre. "USU is ready to support and collaborate with the DJP SUMUT I Regional Office to increase public awareness and compliance in the field of taxation through education, socialization, and research," said Muryanto.
 

Muryanto also hoped that the DJP SUMUT I Regional Office would allow USU students to practice tax knowledge directly before entering the workforce. "We hope that with this collaboration, students can intern at the DJP office to prepare their tax expertise for the workforce later. We also hope they may be appointed non-permanent DJP employees, from volunteers to employees," he added.

 

 

After the MoU signing, the event continued with a public lecture titled "Getting to Know Tax More Closely," delivered by Arridel Mindra as part of the DJP SUMUT I Tax Day event on July 14, 2024. The public lecture was aimed at students as future taxpayers, emphasizing the importance of understanding and becoming familiar with taxes. Through this lecture, it is also hoped that students can become tax volunteers who educate the public on compliance with tax payments.
