Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) officially established cooperation with PT Wahana Prima Sejati through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which was held on Wednesday (30/10/2024), at the Equity Meeting Room, USU Rectorate Building. The MoU was signed by USU's Director of Internationalization and Global Partnerships, Prof. Dr. Eng. Himsar Ambarita, ST, MT, representing the USU Rector, and Ramzi Sastra as Director of PT Wahana Prima Sejati.
One of the main focuses of this collaboration is to increase employment opportunities for USU alumni. Through this collaboration, PT Wahana Prima Sejati has helped open employment opportunities for USU alumni, providing graduates with relevant skills to enter the industrial world. "We hope that this collaboration will not only provide benefits for the company but also for USU students so that they are better prepared to enter the world of work," said Ramzi.
In addition, PT Wahana Prima Sejati will provide internship and training opportunities for USU students to hone practical skills needed in the industry.
In connection with the planned commissioning of the Refinery, Fractionation, and Biodiesel Plant-Plant Installation construction project located in Kariangau Industrial Estate, Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, the Management of PT Wahana Prima Sejati also plans to collaborate in the fields of education, training, and research. Ramzi Sastra explained, "This collaboration is a strategic step to find work-ready experts and improve the quality of research on both sides."
This collaboration is in line with USU's TALENTA program, which is an acronym for Tropical Science and Medicine, Agroindustry, Local Wisdom, Energy (sustainable), Natural Resources (biodiversity, forest, marine, mine, tourism), Technology (appropriate), and Arts (ethnic)," explained Prof. Himsar.
In this context, PT Wahana Prima Sejati is committed to engaging in research that supports the development of science and technology relevant to local needs and sustainability.
Through this collaboration, USU not only focuses on academic development but also seeks to strengthen the link and match between higher education and the industrial world. This is one of USU's efforts to ensure that its graduates excel in theoretical knowledge and have practical skills ready to be applied in the field.
Thus, the cooperation between USU and PT Wahana Prima Sejati is expected to have a broad positive impact on students, alumni, and companies and contribute to the development of industry and education in Indonesia.
