USAID HEPI (Higher Education Project Partnership Initiative) Internal Mid-Term Review at Universitas Sumatera Utara

Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) participated in an internal mid-term review of the USAID HEPI (Higher Education Project Partnership Initiative) program on Wednesday (03/07/2024) in the TTU Room, 3rd Floor, Administrative Center USU Building. This activity is part of an ongoing effort to ensure the success and continuous improvement of the USAID HEPI program.

The USAID HEPI program, which aims to improve the quality of higher education in Indonesia, has engaged the Universitas Sumatera Utara as one of its key partners. As part of this review, the USAID HEPI management team visited USU to gather feedback from faculty, staff, and students participating in the program's activities.

The review activities included on-site assessments, interactions with participants, and an in-depth understanding of project implementation at USU. The USAID HEPI team sought to measure the effectiveness of program components and assess their alignment with institutional priorities. The USAID HEPI team hopes to gather valuable feedback regarding achievements and challenges from October 2022 to March 2024 by engaging university leaders, faculty, and students through interviews and group discussions. The information gained from this review will be used to inform decision-making, guide future activities, and improve collaboration mechanisms. The main objective of this activity is to document successful partnership models and ensure the relevance and sustainable impact of the program.

The review included several interview sessions and focus group discussions involving various stakeholders, including students, lecturers, and university leaders. One of the key sessions was an interview with the university leadership and strategic team to understand their role in the USU planning and implementation of the USAID HEPI strategy.

In this category, some of the key participants involved included Prof. Dr. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, S.Si., M.Si., Apt, Vice Rector for Research, Community Service, and Cooperation; Prof. Dr. Eng. Himsar Ambarita, ST, MT, Director of Internationalization and Global Partnerships; and Dr. dr. Isti Ilmiati Fujiati, M.Sc. CM-FM M.Pd, Ked, Sp.KKLP, Subsp.COPC also participated in this category of university leaders, which further demonstrated the importance of this activity for the institution's strategic development.

 

In addition, there were group interview sessions involving quality assurance teams and professionals focusing on international accreditation readiness. The participants in this session were individuals and teams working to ensure academic quality and compliance with accreditation standards.

Another session involved university personnel in developing educational and academic pathways, focusing on student access to opportunities in universities and industry in the US. The session also included discussions on engagement between higher education institutions and industry partners for curriculum alignment and industry collaboration initiatives.

Prof. Dr. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, Vice Rector for Research, Community Service, and Cooperation, expressed her hope for the outcome of this review. "We appreciate the visit and the efforts of the USAID HEPI team. This review provides an opportunity for us to evaluate and improve the programs that have been running and ensure that we continue to move in the right direction in improving the quality of higher education at Universitas Sumatera Utara," she said.

Through this activity, the Universitas Sumatera Utara can continue to develop and innovate to improve the quality of higher education. The active participation of all parties involved is highly appreciated and is expected to strengthen cooperation in the future.
