USU and Agro Sindo Explore Collaboration in Integrated Livestock and Agriculture Education

Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) held a meeting with PT. Agro Sindo International (Agro Sindo) will discuss potential collaboration in education, research, and developing integrated livestock and agriculture. The meeting, held in the Equity Meeting Room of USU’s Rectorate Building on Friday (20/09/2024), was opened by USU’s Vice-Rector III, Prof. Dr. Apt. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, M.Si.
The audience was attended by USU representatives, including the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Dr. Ir. Tavi Supriana, MS, the Vice Dean III of the Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Dr. Ir. Elisa Julianti, M.Si., and Global Partnership Manager, Dr. Arida Susilowati, S.Hut., M.Si. On Agro Sindo’s side, attendees included Rafee Eunos, CEO, Susana, Corporate Secretary, and Alween Ong, CCO, who presented various potentials and programs for collaboration with USU, including educational opportunities through Agro Edu Tourism programs, the development of livestock clusters, and internship programs for students.
PT. Agro Sindo International, a company specializing in goat and sheep farming, emphasized the importance of collaboration with educational institutions like USU in fostering innovation and providing impactful education. “We are committed to improving community welfare through sustainable innovation and contributions to education,” said Alween Ong during the presentation.
The discussion covered various opportunities for collaboration, including developing a Teaching Lab that could serve as a learning center for USU students and faculty, technical skill training in livestock management, and entrepreneurial programs for students through a system of breeding and fattening livestock clusters. USU was also offered financial benefits from the Agro Edu Tourism program, including guest lectures from industry practitioners and international academics.
Prof. Poppy expressed USU’s enthusiasm for the potential collaboration and stated that working with Agro Sindo could greatly benefit students, particularly in gaining hands-on experience in livestock and agriculture. “This collaboration aligns with USU’s efforts to provide more practical learning experiences and support students in understanding the livestock industry at an international standard,” she said.
This meeting is expected to be the first step toward realizing a partnership that benefits both parties and contributes to developing education and the livestock industry in North Sumatra.
