The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) held an audience at the Universitas Sumatera Utara on Thursday (16/02/2023). The audience was welcomed by Vice Rector III, Prof. Poppy A. Z. Hasibuan, M.Sc., in the TTU Meeting Room, 3rd Floor, BPA USU Building.

Hendro Nugroho, S.T., M.Sc., as the Head of BBMKG Region 1, Surya S.Kom. as the daily acting Head of the Administration Subdivision of BBMKG Region 1, and Simon Sinaga, S.T., as the BBMKG Observation Coordinator as well as other officials from BBMKG Region 1 attended the hearing.

This hearing aims to support capacity building between the two parties. This meeting is still discussing what can be provided by each party and planning them in several programs agreed upon by both parties.

"From USU, there is an independent campus, KKN program; what if the activities involve BMKG, for example, holding earthquake field schools, agricultural field schools, climate field schools for fishermen, maritime field schools. We socialize about seismicity, climate, and agriculture to the community. We can collaborate on this," said Hendro.

This collaboration will involve students to help BMKG socialize with the community about agriculture, earthquakes, climate, and others. However, this collaboration cannot be implemented this semester because students have already entered the new academic year and filled out their Study Plan Cards.

Other cooperation, such as students who can do internships at BMKG and BMKG employees who can register as master students at USU and other cooperation, will be regulated in the MoU and Cooperation Agreement. (ss)
