The meeting began with a discussion on plans for academic collaboration that will serve as the foundation for implementing the MoU, particularly the proposed double degree program, which is considered to hold significant potential for expanding academic mobility among USU students. The discussion also covered opportunities for joint research, faculty exchange, and academic activities aimed at supporting the internationalization agenda of both institutions.
In his remarks, Prof. Richard Dashwood expressed his appreciation for USU’s hospitality and conveyed his optimism regarding the long-term partnership. “This collaboration opens opportunities for Indonesian students and researchers to engage in the global academic ecosystem. We see great potential in developing a double degree program that will bring direct benefits to USU students,” he stated.
USU Rector, Prof. Muryanto Amin, reaffirmed the university’s commitment to strengthening its global network by collaborating with internationally reputable institutions. He emphasized that the MoU serves as a strategic effort to enhance academic quality and global recognition for USU. “We are committed to ensuring that this cooperation can be implemented promptly so that it delivers tangible impacts for students, lecturers, and the institution,” he noted.
The signing ceremony proceeded smoothly and was witnessed by the Director of the Directorate of Internationalization and Global Partnerships (DIKG) USU, Prof. Dr. Eng. Himsar Ambarita, S.T., M.T., as well as several faculty leaders, including the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Ir. Fahmi S.T., M.Sc., IPM; Vice Dean III of the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (FIKTI), Prof. Dr. Romi Fadillah Rahmat, B.Comp.Sc., M.Sc.; and Vice Director I of the School of Postgraduate Studies, Prof. Dr. Ir. Evawany Yunita Aritonang, M.Si. The MoU signing session concluded with a group photo marking the commencement of official collaboration between USU and Coventry University.
Following the ceremonial session, both parties continued with a technical discussion focusing on curriculum alignment, academic mechanisms, and initial steps required to realize the double degree program. Further deliberations will be conducted through periodic meetings and virtual communication to ensure alignment of academic policies between USU and Coventry University.
