Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) held an audience with the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) on Wednesday (05/06/2024) in the TTU meeting room, 3rd floor, BPA USU Building. The Vice Rector for Research, Community Service and USU Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Apt. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, M.Si, chaired the meeting.

Several lecturers from the USU Faculty of Pharmacy attended the audience, namely apt.Khairunnisa, S.Si., M.Pharm., Ph.D (Dean), apt. Aminah Dalimunthe, M.Si (Vice Dean I), apt. Marianne, S.Si., M.si (Vice Dean III), apt. Yuandani, S.Farm., M.Si., Ph.D. (Head of the Master of Pharmaceutical Science Study Program), and apt. Emil Salim, S.Farm., M.Sc., Ph.D. (Secretary of the Master of Pharmaceutical Science Study Program). Meanwhile, the IIUM delegation comprised Juliana, Hazrina, Muhammad Rusdi, and Izzat Fahimuddin.

This meeting discussed the collaboration plan in the Double Degree Program between Master of Pharmaceutical Science (USU) and Master of Science in Cosmetic Science (IIUM). Both agreed to start lectures at the beginning of the year at USU and continue them at IIUM during the same learning period as usual. “This collaboration will allow students to gain learning experience in two different countries to broaden their horizons and skills,” said Prof. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan.

Requirements to join the program include a minimum IELTS score of 500. The program is designed so that lectures take place for one year in Malaysia and one year at USU. Tuition fees are around 95 million annually, and IIUM offers special discounts to attract students. “We hope that with this discount, more students will be interested in joining this double degree program, especially students in the fields of pharmacy and cosmetics,” said Juliana from IIUM.

In addition, credit assistance from alumni gathering in the form of 2 credits is also proposed to make the program more attractive. “This cooperation does not only focus on education but also on preparing students for the world of work. We plan to offer internship programs and joint research projects,” added Prof. Poppy.

The next meeting will further arrange lecture arrangements and agreement drafting, and double-degree and joint-degree arrangements will be adjusted to the PDDikti rules. There were no significant problems related to lecture arrangements discussed in this hearing. The meeting ended with an agreement to continue communication and further preparations for this double degree program.
