Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) welcomed a visit from the Indonesian Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP) on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at the Equity Meeting Room, 3rd Floor of the Rectorate Building. This audience served as a significant moment to revisit the partnership between both institutions, particularly the renewal of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that expired in 2020.
The meeting was opened by the Director of USU's Directorate of Internationalization and Global Partnerships, Prof. Dr. Eng. Himsar Ambarita, S.T., M.T., and attended by the Secretary of the Directorate, Arif Nuryawan, S.Hut., M.Si., Ph.D., Global Partnership Manager Prof. Dr. Arida Susilowati, S.Hut., M.Si., and several staff members from the Directorate of Student Achievements and Alumni Relations. Representing LPDP were Azman and Widy from the Partnership Division, who presented key agendas, including opportunities and developments in scholarship schemes available for USU students and faculty.
One of the main discussion points was the renewal of the MoU, which was initially signed in 2016 and is valid until 2020. Due to internal restructuring at LPDP, the renewal process has been delayed. LPDP encouraged USU to promptly submit an official letter of request to proceed with the renewal.
In response, Arif Nuryawan reaffirmed USU's commitment to strengthening its collaboration with LPDP: "We are ready to follow up on the MoU renewal. A draft has been prepared, and we will soon submit the official request. The signing can be done either desk-to-desk or in a ceremonial forum," he stated.
LPDP also reported that, to date, 54 USU students have received educational funding, primarily in specialist medical, doctoral, and master's programs. Moreover, there are considerable opportunities for USU students to pursue double degree scholarships abroad, provided that the partner universities are listed among LPDP's approved institutions.
Furthermore, LPDP encouraged USU students and the academic community to use the various scholarship schemes and supporting programs available via the official LPDP website and Instagram account. These programs include affirmative action, targeted, general scholarships, and non-degree training programs such as World Class Professor, MSIB, Kampus Mengajar, and vocational training both domestically and abroad.
To the Directorate of Student Achievements and Alumni Relations, LPDP emphasized the importance of equitable information dissemination to ensure all students are well-informed and prepared to apply for available scholarship programs.
Through this meeting, both USU and LPDP expressed hope for continued collaboration to broaden opportunities and enhance the quality of Indonesia's human resources in the global arena.
