Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) welcomed a delegation from the National Changhua University of Education (NCUE), Taiwan, for an audience meeting on Tuesday (October 7, 2025), held at the TTU Meeting Room, 3rd Floor of the Rectorate Building. The meeting was opened by the Secretary of the Directorate of Internationalization and Global Partnership (DIKG) of USU, Dr. Arif Nuryawan, S.Hut., M.Si., Ph.D.

Also present at the meeting were USU’s Vice-Rector for Research, Community Service, and Collaboration, Prof. Dr. Apt. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, M.Si., Apt.; Manager of Global Partnership, Prof. Dr. Arida Susilowati, S.Hut., M.Si.; along with the DIKG USU staff members. Representing NCUE were Hon-Man Lee, Dean of the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs and head of the delegation, accompanied by several academic staff members who presented their university’s profile and potential areas of collaboration across disciplines.

To open the session, USU presented its university profile video, highlighting academic achievements, research reputation, and ongoing global partnerships. The NCUE delegation then introduced their international programs, including the 3-in-1 Asian Immersion Program and the Taiwan Experience Education Program (TEEP), which provide mobility opportunities for both students and faculty members.

Through the TEEP Internship Program, USU students will have the opportunity to undertake internships in laboratories and partner companies in Taiwan, supported by scholarships of up to NT$30,000 (approximately IDR 6.5 million) per month for six months. NCUE also offers opportunities for faculty members to pursue master’s and doctoral studies through international programs conducted entirely in English.

“NCUE is committed to expanding partnerships with universities in Southeast Asia, including Indonesia. We regard USU as a strategic and promising partner in research collaboration, student exchange, and international academic programs,” stated Hon-Man Lee.

Prof. Poppy expressed USU’s strong interest in establishing a long-term partnership with NCUE, particularly in the areas of student exchange, double degree programs, and joint research.

“We are very interested in the TEEP program. We will coordinate with the faculties of Science, Engineering, and Cultural Studies. If possible, this collaboration could also be extended to other faculties in different fields such as student exchange and joint research,” said Prof. Poppy.

In addition, NCUE introduced its industrial collaboration with Siliconware Precision Industries Co., Ltd. (SPIL), a global Taiwanese company in the semiconductor sector. This initiative opens up opportunities for students to gain international work experience in the technology industry.

The meeting proceeded in an interactive atmosphere, featuring discussions on credit transfer mechanisms, cross-country research opportunities, and plans for drafting a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Letter of Intent (LoI) as follow-up steps for the partnership.

Through this meeting, USU and NCUE agreed to explore a strategic collaboration aimed at strengthening the quality of education and promoting sustainable research. This partnership is expected to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), reflecting the universities’ shared commitment to advancing global development.
