USU and PORDASI North Sumatra Sign MoU to Develop Equestrian Sports in the Province

Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) has established a strategic partnership with the North Sumatra Regional Board of the Indonesian Equestrian Sports Association (PORDASI) through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Sunday (August 24, 2025), at the Raja Inal Siregar Hall, North Sumatra Governor’s Office.

The MoU signing was carried out directly by the Rector of USU, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., and the Chairman of PORDASI North Sumatra, H. HR. Yuriandi Siregar, S.E., S.H. The event was also attended by the Governor of North Sumatra, Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution, S.E., M.M., and USU’s representatives, including the Vice-Rector for Research, Community Service, and Collaboration, Prof. Dr. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, S.Si., M.Si., Apt.

Prof. Muryanto Amin stated that this collaboration marks an important step in expanding the university’s role in sports development, particularly equestrian sports, which hold great potential in North Sumatra. “USU is not only focused on education but also supports sports activities that foster character, discipline, and open opportunities for the creative economy in the region,” he remarked.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of PORDASI North Sumatra, H. HR. Yuriandi Siregar, expressed his appreciation for USU’s support. According to him, this collaboration will pave the way for improving athlete training quality and developing equestrian sports facilities in the province. “This partnership represents a new milestone to bring equestrian sports closer to the public while nurturing accomplished athletes who can bring pride to the region at both national and international levels,” he said.

 

The meeting between the two parties emphasized that following the MoU signing, a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) would be prepared to outline more detailed technical cooperation. The MoA will include activities such as athlete training programs, joint research, and the provision of training facilities at USU.

Prof. Poppy Anjelisa added that USU is ready to collaborate through a multidisciplinary approach. “Equestrian sports are not limited to the realm of athletics alone but also touch on aspects of health, tourism, and business. With strong synergy, we believe this collaboration will bring broad benefits to the people of North Sumatra,” she concluded.
