Representing USU at the event were the Director of the Directorate of Partnership and Internationalization, Prof. Dr. dr. Dewi Masyithah Darlan, DAP&E, MPH., Sp.Park., and the Partnership Manager, Amalia Meutia, M.Psi., Psychologist. Meanwhile, Lions Clubs International was represented by the District 307-A2 Governor, Jones Tjiunardi.
The National Children's Day celebration was also marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between USU and Lions Club. The agreement serves as the foundation for future collaboration in education, healthcare, community service, the empowerment of vulnerable groups, and various social programs that provide direct benefits to the community.
The Director of USU's Directorate of Partnership and Internationalization, Prof. Dr. dr. Dewi Masyithah Darlan, DAP&E, MPH., Sp.Park., stated that protecting and fulfilling children's rights requires the involvement of multiple stakeholders.
"Children's issues cannot be addressed by a single institution alone. Partnerships among universities, social organizations, government agencies, the private sector, professionals, and the wider community are essential. Through the signing of this MoU, USU hopes that its collaboration with Lions Club will extend beyond the National Children's Day celebration and develop into well-planned, measurable, and sustainable programs. This partnership also represents a concrete implementation of SDG 2 through child nutrition, SDG 3 through healthcare services and psychological support, SDG 4 through education, SDG 10 by ensuring equal access for children from vulnerable groups, SDG 16 through strengthening child protection against violence, and SDG 17 through partnerships to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals," said Prof. Dewi.
District Governor of Lions Club District 307-A2, Jones Tjiunardi, explained that the event reflected the organization's commitment to supporting children who continue to face limited access to healthcare, basic necessities, protection, and opportunities for self-expression.
"Every child has the right to grow up healthy, safe, and happy, and to have equal opportunities for a better future. Through this event, we aim to provide tangible services while ensuring that children from vulnerable groups feel cared for, valued, and never alone," said Jones.
He also welcomed the signing of the MoU between Lions Club and USU as an important step toward expanding the reach and sustainability of future social programs.
"We greatly appreciate the support of the Universitas Sumatera Utara in providing academic expertise and professional assistance. We hope this collaboration will lead to more impactful programs that benefit not only children but also their families and the broader community," he added.
The event aligns with USU's commitment to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through the promotion of child health and well-being, inclusive education, reduced inequalities, the protection of vulnerable groups, and cross-sector collaboration.
