Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) held an audience with PT Flora Agung on Thursday (May 22, 2025) at the "Transformation Towards the Ultimate" (TTU) Meeting Room, 3rd Floor, USU Rectorate Building. The meeting focused on plans for a partnership to support the development of a food estate area in Pakpak Bharat Regency, North Sumatra
The session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Arida Susilowati, S.Hut., M.Si., Manager of Global Partnerships at USU, and attended by Vice Dean III of the Faculty of Agriculture USU, Prof. Dr. Ir. Elisa Julianri, M.Si., along with staff from the Directorate of Internationalization and Global Partnerships. Representing PT Flora Agung were FAT Officer Naufal Hadi and other company delegates.
In their presentation, PT Flora Agung's representatives explained that the food estate development initiative has received support from the Pakpak Bharat regional government. As such, the company invited USU to become a strategic partner to contribute through education, research, and community empowerment program.
Proposed areas of cooperation include the utilization and development of USU's agricultural laboratories, internship opportunities for USU students at PT Flora Agung, and employment of graduates from the Faculty of Agriculture as skilled workers. Additional collaboration potential includes agricultural modernization research, development of superior crop varieties, post-harvest empowerment programs, and other agribusiness initiatives tailored to field conditions.
"USU greatly welcomes this initiative. Collaborations like this have a significant impact on the institution and the local communities—particularly in agricultural regions needing research and human capital development," said Prof. Arida.
As a follow-up, PT Flora Agung will schedule a technical meeting with the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture to finalize the cooperation scheme, which will be formalized in an official agreement.
Through this collaboration, USU reaffirms its commitment to actively contributing to innovation—and technology-based agricultural development and expanding its partnership network with the industrial sector.
