Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) paid a visit to PT Pacific Medan Industri on Tuesday (4/6/ 2024), at 10.00 WIB. The visit took place in the meeting room of PT Pacific Medan Industri and was led by the Dean of the USU Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Ir. Fahmi, S.T., M.Sc., IPM.
During the visit, Dr. Arida Susilowati, S.Hut., M.Si (USU Global Partnership Manager), Prof. Basuki (USU Chemistry), Shanty Aulia Dien (USU Vocational Faculty), Enyanti Tarigan (Lead MR), Syafrina Siregar (Secretary HR and General Manager), Felicia Airiana (Research and Development), and several other participants were present.
This hearing resulted in several important points, such as the first step of collaboration between PT Pacific Medan Industri and USU. One of the main plans is to provide tools or machines to the USU Faculty of Engineering to facilitate students in conducting lecture practices.
Both parties also open up wider opportunities for cooperation, including the Merdeka Learning Campus Merdeka (MBKM) internship program for USU students at PT Pacific Medan Industri. “We hope that this internship program can prepare students with relevant skills and experience so that they are ready to work in industrial companies,” said Prof. Dr. Ir. Fahmi.
In addition, USU and PT Pacific Medan Industri will immediately draft a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and determine the schedule for signing it. Each related faculty member will prepare a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for broader activities.
PT Pacific Medan Industri hopes that this collaboration will help USU students build solid basic skills and foster a strong mentality for working in the industrial world. “This collaboration is expected to form students ready to face industrial challenges with qualified competencies,” said Syafrina Siregar, Secretary of HR and General Manager of PT Pacific Medan Industri.
This visit is expected to be a positive first step in building a strong and mutually beneficial relationship between academia and industry. In addition, it is hoped that this collaboration will improve USU students' readiness to work in the industrial world.
