Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) officially established international cooperation with Seoul Glocal Education Laboratory from South Korea through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which took place at JW Marriott Hotel Medan. The MoU signing was led by the USU Rector, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., and attended by several important representatives, including Prof. Dr. Eng. Himsar Ambarita, ST, MT, Director of USU'sUSU's Directorate of Internationalization and Global Partnerships, and Youn Hyang OK, Director of the Global Seoul Glocal Education Laboratory.
This cooperation opens up new opportunities for both parties. One of the first initiatives is the plan to open a Korean language course at the USU Language Center. This course is intended for students and the surrounding community interested in learning the Korean language and culture. "We hope this cooperation will not only support students ' language skills but also strengthen cultural connections between Indonesia and South Korea," said Prof. Muryanto.
In addition to the language course, this meeting's discussion also highlighted plans to expand the scope of other collaborations in the future. Both parties agreed to explore more cooperation opportunities in various fields, and the success of this initial cooperation will be an important foundation for further collaboration.
After the MoU signing, Seoul Glocal Education Laboratory continued its activities by holding a campus tour of USU on Saturday (3/11/2024). This visit provided an opportunity for Seoul Glocal Education Laboratory representatives to get to know the main campus facilities, including the USU Language Center and the USU International Guesthouse. The International House is a facility for international students and guests, designed to support their comfort during their study or visit at USU.
Youn Hyang OK shared his impressions when visiting the facilities on the USU campus. "We are impressed with USU's commitment to providing complete facilities for international students and guests. This shows USU'sUSU's readiness to welcome global collaboration and support a conducive learning atmosphere for international students," he said.
USU and Seoul Glocal Education Laboratory hope that this MoU can be the beginning of a fruitful partnership for both institutions, while supporting USU'sUSU's internationalization vision and promoting cross-cultural learning on campus.
