The signing of this MoU marks the commitment of both parties to integrate USU's academic potential to support the development process in Deli Serdang Regency, particularly through the Tridharma of higher education, which includes education, research, and community service. Several leaders from USU faculties and directorates, as well as heads of departments from the Deli Serdang Regency Government, also attended this event.
In his speech, the Rector of USU affirmed USU's readiness to make a real contribution to regional development, including through the deployment of lecturers and students who can conduct research and community service based on the specific needs of the community.
"We offer the Deli Serdang Regency Government the opportunity to utilize our academic staff if they need assistance in the form of research or community service. We are ready to collaborate," said Professor Muryanto.
Furthermore, the Rector of USU also expressed his hope that the Deli Serdang Regency Government would support the development of infrastructure access to the USU Kwala Bekala campus, which is located in the Deli Serdang Regency area. "We hope USU can be a campus present in Deli Serdang and receive full support from the local government," he added.
Meanwhile, the Regent of Deli Serdang, dr. H. Asri Ludin Tambunan, expressed his enthusiasm for the cooperation, especially in efforts to strengthen the agricultural and livestock sectors through the utilization of existing farmer groups.
"Farmer groups in Deli Serdang can participate in learning with USU, both in the fields of agricultural and livestock development. We would greatly support USU becoming a learning hub in our region," said the Regent.
The signed MoAs include collaborations between USU faculties and various departments within the Deli Serdang Regency Government. The Faculty of Medicine is collaborating with the Health Office and the Education Office; the Faculty of Agriculture with the Agriculture Office; the Faculty of Engineering with the Environmental Office; the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences with the Culture, Sports, and Tourism Office and the Regional Secretariat; the Faculty of Public Health with the Health Office; the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology with the Communication, Informatics, Statistics, and Encryption Office; the Postgraduate School with Bappedalitbang; and the Faculty of Economics and Business with the Cooperative Office.
Through this collaboration, it's hoped that research findings and studies conducted by USU students and lecturers can be directly applied in regional policies, whether at the departmental, sub-district, or village level. Additionally, this cooperation is aimed at producing relevant and data-driven policy recommendations for the development needs of Deli Serdang Regency.
