USU and the Kasetsart University of Thailand Discuss Opportunities for Cooperation in Academic and Research Fields

The Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) held an audience with Kasetsart University of Thailand at the Rector's Audience Room, 3rd Floor, Administrative Center Building USU on Monday (20/05/2024). The meeting was chaired by the Rector of USU, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si.

From the USU side, Vice Rector III of USU, Prof. Dr. Apt. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, M.Si, and Prof. Dr. Eng. Himsar Ambarita, S.T., M.T, who serves as Director of the Directorate of Internationalization and Global Partnerships. Meanwhile, Kasetsart University was represented by Asst. Prof. Dr. P. Pung. Prof. Dr. P. Pungboon Pansila as Dean, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tongsai Jamnongkam, who served as Vice Dean and Asst. Prof. Dr. Pungboon Pansila as Dean. Prof. Dr. Pattasawadee Sumtheng Nakmeu, Head of MSC.

In this audience, both parties introduced their respective institutions and the excellent programs being implemented. Further discussions discussed cooperation plans, which include research collaboration, summer courses, double degree programs, and joint degrees.

USU Rector, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, proposed to start cooperation with a staff and student exchange program. According to him, this exchange can start at least one year before proceeding to the research collaboration stage and joint degree program. The faculties of Pharmacy or Mathematics and Natural Sciences are expected to join the joint degree program.

In addition, there are plans to participate in the Erasmus program, with a research focus on Cannabis (Marijuana) plants. Both universities plan to submit a joint proposal for the Erasmus program.

The hearing marked a positive first step for both institutions in establishing close and sustainable international cooperation. "We sincerely hope that the exchange of staff and students between USU and Kasetsart University can open up more opportunities for future collaboration. This initial step is very important to build a strong foundation for double degree and joint degree programs," said USU Rector, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si.
