Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) met with UCSI University Malaysia on Thursday (26/09/2024) to explore potential collaborations in education, research, and student development. The meeting occurred in the Equity Meeting Room, BPA Building, USU, and was chaired by Arif Nuryawan, S.Hut., M.Si., Secretary of the Directorate of Internationalization and Global Partnerships at USU.

This meeting followed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between USU and UCSI University, which occurred earlier on Saturday (03/08/2024) at the JW Marriott Hotel Medan. The MoU was signed by USU’s Vice-Rector III, Prof. Dr. Apt. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, M.Si., and Professor Datuk Ts Ir. Dr. Siti Hamisah Binti Tapsir, FASc, Vice-Chancellor and President of UCSI University. The collaboration highlights both universities’ commitment to improving the quality of education and research through various joint programs.

During the meeting, both parties agreed to establish partnerships in three main programs: student mobility, double/joint degree programs, and internships. As part of the internship program, UCSI University offered opportunities for USU students to undertake internships at various companies partnered with UCSI. These opportunities provide valuable experiences for USU students to gain international work exposure and apply their learned skills.

Furthermore, the discussion also covered the potential development of double/joint degree programs in several fields of study. These programs allow students from both universities to earn degrees from each institution upon completing their studies.

Lui Ribka Hutahayan, a staff member of the USU's Directorate of Internationalization and Global Partnerships, attended the meeting. Representatives from UCSI University included Ms. Ajliaa Saori Rujhan, Director of Marketing Communication, and Ms. Suhaila Selamat, Assistant Manager of the Global Engagement Office.

This meeting is expected to be a positive first step in strengthening the relationship between USU and UCSI University, hoping that the agreed-upon programs will soon be implemented to enhance the quality of education and student experiences at both institutions.
