Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) held a friendly meeting with Universitas Bumi Persada on Friday (07/06/2024). The event took place in the Transformation Towards the Ultimate (TTU) Meeting Room, 3rd floor of the Administrative Center of the USU Building, and began at 14.00 WIB. USU Vice Rector I, Dr. Edy Ikhsan, SH, MA, chaired the meeting, which was attended by a number of important officials from both universities.

This meeting aims to strengthen cooperation in the Merdeka Learning Campus Merdeka (MBKM) Program, especially regarding the Independent Student Exchange Program (PMM Mandiri). "We at the Universitas Sumatera Utara have been running MBKM activities for three years, with the participation of around 3,500 students each year," said Dr. Edy Ikhsan.

The Rector of Universitas Bumi Persada expressed his hope to increase MBKM's cooperation with USU. "We hope MBKM activities between USU and Universitas Bumi Persada, especially PMM Mandiri, will be established. We have planned to send students from the Faculty of Nursing and Economics," said the Rector of Bumi Persada University.

The Director of the USU Directorate of Education Development also provided input regarding the difference in the number of study programs at the Faculty of Nursing at the two universities. "At Universitas Bumi Persada, the Faculty of Nursing has four study programs; at USU, there is only one Undergraduate Nursing study program. This must be considered to prevent confusion in recognizing student grades," he explained.

Vice Rector I of Universitas Bumi Persada responded optimistically that there would be no problem because they had known about the condition from the beginning. "We have known from the beginning and plan to send students from the Undergraduate Nursing Study Program. MBKM is an opportunity for students to experience the atmosphere on another campus," he said.

Furthermore, the USU Vice Rector I suggested that the continuation of this cooperation be further coordinated with the USU Directorate of Education Development to discuss the technical implementation of the Independent PMM program. "For MBKM PMM Mandiri cooperation, the dean of the Faculty of Nursing from Universitas Bumi Persada can coordinate directly with the USU Faculty of Nursing dean," added Dr. Edy Ikhsan.

The Global Partnership Manager of the USU Directorate of Internationalization and Global Partnerships, Dr. Arida Susilowati, S.Hut., M.Si, also gave her views regarding this collaboration. "Regarding cooperation with LP and LPPM, we will technically direct it to the relevant parties. USU also has an Innovation Institute that can support downstream products," she explained.

Vice Rector I of Universitas Bumi Persada added that they are planning a village project focusing on stunting as part of this year's MBKM. "We focus on two main themes in research and hope our lecturers can pursue the target of inter-university research collaboration," he said.

On the occasion, USU's Education Assessment and Development Manager explained that there is no special fee to be paid for inbound students to USU, except for the dormitory fee of IDR 250,000 per month. "In practice so far, students' tuition fees follow the university of origin," he added.

The agreement to extend the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between USU and Universitas Bumi Persada was also an important part of this meeting. "Now that there is an MoU between USU and Universitas Bumi Persada, we need to agree on the MoU with the faculties and study programs," explained Ikhsan Siregar, ST, M.Eng.

With this meeting, USU and Universitas Bumi Persada's collaboration is expected to become closer, provide great benefits for students and lecturers from both universities and improve the quality of education through the MBKM Program.
