Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) and Yayasan Merah Putih Kasih signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the Rector's Audience Room, USU Rectorate Building, on Thursday, March 13, 2025. The signing was represented by USU's Vice Rector for Research, Community Service, and Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Apt. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, M.Si., and the Chairman of the Advisory Board of Yayasan Merah Putih Kasih, Jerry Hermawan Lo.

In her remarks, Prof. Dr. Apt. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, M.Si., expressed gratitude and hope for the agreement reached with Yayasan Merah Putih Kasih to forge a closer partnership through the planned collaboration program, "1000 Graduates in Agriculture and Livestock."

"Hopefully, this MoU signing can soon be followed up with other activities, especially those directly related to collaboration in the areas of the tridharma for the implementation of education, study, research, and community service," she hoped.

Through this collaboration, Yayasan Merah Putih Kasih reaffirms its commitment to producing 1,000 graduates in the fields of agriculture and livestock over the next five years. This partnership is expected to have a significant impact on Indonesia's agricultural sector by promoting more optimal land management and supporting innovative research in agriculture.

On this occasion, Yayasan Merah Putih Kasih expressed its interest in collaborating with USU in managing agricultural land, particularly in research and the utilization of land for sustainable agriculture. This collaboration aligns with USU's vision to support the development of research and technology-based agriculture that can make a tangible contribution to national food security.

Previously, Yayasan Merah Putih Kasih demonstrated its commitment to supporting higher education in agriculture by providing scholarships to 104 students of the Faculty of Agriculture at USU. These scholarships include assistance with the Single Tuition Fee (UKT) of Rp1 million and a living allowance of Rp500,000 per month for up to eight semesters.

This collaboration is a strategic step in strengthening the synergy between academia and the agricultural industry. With this partnership, USU students are expected to gain broader opportunities to develop skills in agriculture through education, research, and hands-on practice in the field. USU and Yayasan Merah Putih Kasih are optimistic that this initiative will have a lasting positive impact on agriculture and education in Indonesia.
