Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) welcomed a visit from PT Zurich General Takaful Indonesia during a meeting held in the Equity Meeting Room, USU Rectorate Building. The session on Tuesday (December 10, 2024) was led by Dr. Arida Susilowati, S.Hut., M.Si., USU's Global Partnership Manager, and attended by several USU representatives, including Drs. Gustanto, M.Hum., Vice Dean III of the Faculty of Vocational Studies; Mahatir Muhammad, S.Farm., M.Si., Apt., Education Assessment and Development Manager; Buchari, S.T., M.Kes., IPM, Head of the Research and Innovation Development Agency; and Ami Dilham, SE., M.Si., Entrepreneurship and Career Development Manager.

From PT Zurich General Takaful Indonesia, the audience was represented by Satria Nugraha, Business Head Partnership, accompanied by Deka Tazally, Relationship Manager.

During the meeting, PT Zurich General Takaful Indonesia proposed several strategic collaboration programs, including guest lectures featuring Zurich Syariah practitioners to share insights on the Islamic insurance industry's development, certified internships for USU students, and management trainee programs for USU graduates.

“We offer collaboration programs, including guest lectures, certified internships, and management trainee programs to provide hands-on experience for USU students. Additionally, we aim to introduce Islamic insurance inclusion as relevant financial protection, covering assets, health risks, and business ventures,” said Satria.

They also proposed entrepreneurship programs, strategic partnerships in Islamic banking services, and Islamic insurance inclusion that provides financial protection for assets, accident risks, health, and business risks through Zurich Syariah products.

USU expressed enthusiasm for the proposed collaboration. According to Dr. Arida Susilowati, the programs offered by Zurich General Takaful Indonesia align with USU's vision to enhance student and graduate connectivity with the industrial world while strengthening students' entrepreneurial skills.

As a follow-up, both parties agreed to draft a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as the basis for cooperation. “While preparing the MoU draft, some agreed-upon programs, such as guest lectures and internship programs, can start immediately,” said Dr. Arida.

Additionally, Zurich General Takaful Indonesia announced plans for sustainable collaboration programs, including providing scholarships for outstanding or financially disadvantaged students as part of Zurich Syariah's CSR program, and offering personal accident protection bundled with tuition fees.

This collaboration is expected to create strong synergy between academia and industry while providing tangible benefits for students, lecturers, and the university in career development and financial protection for the future.
