USU Awards 2024: Celebrating University Achievements for Students and Academics

Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) hosted the USU Awards 2024 as part of the 72nd USU Anniversary celebration. The event, held on Thursday (December 12, 2024), took place at the USU Auditorium and was attended by Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., USU Rector, alongside other university leaders, including Dr. Muhammad Arifin Nasution, S.Sos., M.SP. (Vice Rector II), Prof. Dr. Apt. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, M.Si. (Vice Rector III), and Prof. Dr. dr. Muhammad Fidel Ganis Siregar, M.Ked(OG), Sp.OG(K)-Fer (University Secretary), along with other officials.
The event gathered students from all faculties at USU and commenced with the national anthem "Indonesia Raya" and a prayer recital. In his remarks, Prof. Muryanto Amin expressed his appreciation for the achievements made throughout 2024. “Always remember that without friendship, there can be no relationships. Let’s continue making meaningful contributions to Indonesian society in education, community service, and research. May this year’s achievements inspire us to aim higher in the years to come,” he said.
The Rector also motivated award recipients and emphasized perseverance. “Congratulations to the winners, and for those who haven’t won, do not be disheartened. There is still ample time; keep striving to do your best. Hard work never betrays the results,” he added.
Under the supervision of the Vice Rector for Research, Community Engagement, and Partnerships, 20 award categories were announced. The awards recognized programs that established the best collaborations at international, industrial, and government levels, as well as for reporting cooperation. The Bachelor’s Program in Psychology won top positions for international and industrial partnerships, while the Bachelor’s Program in Forestry excelled in collaborations with government institutions and NGOs.
Additionally, outstanding academics were honored for their contributions to scientific writing, research, community service, and innovation. Some key award recipients included Prof. Dr. Apri Heri Iswanto as the best researcher in science and health, and Prof. Dr. Drs. Humaizi, MA for social and humanities categories.
USU faculties also competed in various World Class University (WCU) categories. The Faculty of Engineering earned recognition for hosting the most guest lectures, while the Faculty of Medicine dominated in adjunct professor and international staff mobility categories.
Through this event, USU reaffirmed its commitment to motivating the academic community to increase their contributions to education, research, and community service. With the support of all university elements, USU remains optimistic about achieving remarkable accomplishments at both national and international levels.
