Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), in collaboration with the Badan Pembinaan Ideologi Pancasila Republik Indonesia (BPIP), held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with the theme "Strengthening the Ethics of State Organizers in the Life of Society, Nation, and State". The event, which took place on Friday (1/11/2024), aimed to strengthen the understanding and implementation of ethics in leadership and strengthen the values of Pancasila among state administrators.
The event was attended by various important figures, including Major General TNI (Purn.) Wisnu Bawa Tenaya, Secretary of the BPIP Steering Board; Prof. Dr. Muhammad Amin Abdullah, Member of the BPIP Steering Board; Prof. Drs. KH. Yudian Wahyudi, MA., PhD, Head of BPIP; as well as several BPIP Expert Councils and resource persons from academia and practitioners, such as Prof. Dr. Juanda, S.H., M.H, Dicky Sofjan, M.A., MPP., Ph.D, and Prof. Iwan Pranoto.
Director of USU's Directorate of Internationalization and Global Partnerships, Prod. Dr Eng. Himsar Ambarita, S.T., M.T., through his remarks, expressed his appreciation to BPIP and the speakers who were present to share knowledge about the importance of ethics in state administration. "This FGD provides an opportunity for the academic community, especially students, to explore the ethics of state administrators as future leaders who are responsible for the lives of society, nation, and state," he said.
This discussion is also a space for students to explore insights into exemplary political elites who are ethical and accountable. Prof. Himsar said that in the era of rapidly developing globalization, public expectations of accountability and morality of leaders are increasing. "In the position of state administrators, ethics and morality are personal needs and public responsibilities. The example of the leaders will be an example for the wider community, which will strengthen the integrity of the nation," he added.
Prof. Drs. KH. Yudian Wahyudi, MA., PhD, as the Head of BPIP, emphasized that the example shown by political elites will be an example for the wider community, especially in building an ethical and responsible nation. "This FGD is important to instil an understanding that as state administrators, ethics and integrity must be the main pillars. The example of the leaders not only impacts the scope of government but also inspires the community to behave and contribute to the nation," said Prof. Yudian.
One of the main speakers, Prof. Iwan Pranoto, conveyed the importance of ethical studies for true political elites, emphasizing that ethics are not just principles but must be realized in real actions by leaders. "The ethics of political elites is not enough to just be jargon; it must be consistently realized in policies and behaviors that can be followed by the community. Ethical leaders will foster a sense of trust and security in society, a strong foundation for the nation," said Prof. Iwan Pranoto.
The FGD event also aimed to formulate strategic steps to internalize leadership ethics that are aligned with Pancasila values in various sectors. Through discussions guided by experts, USU and BPIP hope that this activity can produce applicable recommendations not only for the government but also for education and everyday life.
