Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) continues to explore regional partnerships through an audience with the Regional Secretariat of Deli Serdang Regency on Thursday (May 22, 2025). The meeting was held in the Equity Meeting Room, 3rd Floor of the Rectorate Building, and was chaired by the Vice Rector for Research, Community Service, and Collaboration, Prof. Dr. apt. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, M.Si., Apt
Also in attendance were the Manager of the Directorate of Internationalization and Global Partnerships, Prof. Dr. Arida Susilowati, S.Hut., M.Si., the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine USU, Aldy Safruddin Rambe, and the Vice Dean III of the Faculty of Agriculture USU, Elisa Julianti. Reza Darma Al Fariz, Head of the Waste Management Section of the Environmental Agency, represented the Deli Serdang Regency Government.
This meeting was an initial step toward a collaboration encompassing various sectors, such as education, healthcare, and environmental sustainability. In her remarks, Prof. Poppy emphasized that USU is highly open to building multi-stakeholder partnerships to support regional development based on research and innovation. "USU is ready to synergize with the Deli Serdang Regency Government in areas such as training resource provision, human resource capacity building—especially in the health sector—and cross-sectoral program assistance," she stated.
The Deli Serdang Regency Government expressed full support from the Regent for expanding regional collaboration networks with higher education institutions, particularly USU. "We hope all agencies can connect with the faculties at USU to align regional development programs," said the representative from the Environmental Agency.
One of the urgent needs highlighted was training for integrated health service posts (Posyandu), where the Health Office has faced difficulties securing qualified trainers. In response, the USU Faculty of Medicine is committed to facilitating expert support from the university. In addition, Deli Serdang plans to build a new hospital in Hamparan Perak in 2028, which will require professional medical personnel, especially physicians. Through its Faculty of Medicine, USU expressed readiness to cooperate further in providing qualified health personnel.
As a follow-up to this meeting, both parties agreed to begin drafting a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) as the legal foundation for the cross-sectoral collaboration.
This meeting is expected to strengthen the synergy between USU and the Deli Serdang Regency Government, contributing significantly to regional development through academic collaboration and implementing the university's threefold mission (education, research, and community service).
