USU Hosts FGD on Revitalizing Mentorship for USN Kolaka

Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) hosted a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) aimed at revitalizing its mentorship for Universitas Sembilanbelas November Kolaka (USN Kolaka) on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at the IMT-GT Room, BPA Building, USU. The event was led by Dr. Edy Ikhsan, SH., MA, Vice Rector I of USU, and representatives from both universities attended.
The delegation from USN Kolaka included its Rector, Agus Nasir, S.Pd., M.Pd., along with several academic and administrative staff members. Meanwhile, USU was represented by its Vice-Rectors, Heads of Departments, and Directors from various units across the university.
The event began with a welcoming speech from USN Kolaka representatives, followed by an exchange of souvenirs. Participants were then divided into smaller groups to discuss topics in breakout rooms.
One of the session's highlights was a presentation on financial management at USU, delivered by Emerson Pascawira Sinulingga, ST., M.Sc., PhD, and Surya Darma, S.Sos. Other sessions covered topics such as organizational governance and academic management at USU.
Ikhsan Siregar, ST., M.Eng., from USU, explained the academic requirements for Public Service Agency State Universities (PTN-BLU) status, including program accreditation rankings, international publications, and participation in government and industrial activities.
"The academic requirements for PTN-BLU status include at least 50% of study programs achieving superior accreditation rankings, international publications and/or intellectual property rights, students excelling in national and international competitions, active participation in government and regional government activities, as well as partnerships with industries, organizations, and/or communities," Ikhsan elaborated.
Discussions also addressed efforts to enhance student achievements, international publications, and the implementation of Certified Internships and Independent Studies as part of the *Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka* (MBKM) learning model at USU.
"MBKM is divided into flagship MBKM and USU-specific MBKM. USU also provides a dedicated website for students to register for flagship and USU-specific MBKM programs," explained Mahatir Muhammad, S.Farm., M.Si., Apt.
The FGD took a break for prayers and meals before resuming in the afternoon. Presentations on USU's integrated service units and information systems were held in two separate rooms, emphasizing USU's commitment to delivering high-quality services to students and the broader community.
The event concluded with a visit to the USU Information Systems Center (PSI) and a communal iftar (breaking of the fast) at the DLCB Building. The program highlighted collaboration and synergy between the two universities in advancing education in Indonesia.
