USU Receives BRIN Top Collaborator Award, Discusses Opportunities for Developing Young Innovators Toward Golden Indonesia 2045

Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) hosted the BRIN Research Awards & Talkshow event on Thursday (24/10/2024), an initiative of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) to strengthen research collaboration and innovation among universities. The event, held in the Academic Senate Room on the 3rd Floor of the USU Rectorate Building, was accompanied by the BRIN 2024 Top Collaborator Research Award, which was presented to USU in appreciation for its active contribution to research publications with BRIN.

The event was attended by Laksana Tri Handoko as Head of BRIN, Edy Giri Rachman Putra, Ph.D, BRIN's Deputy for Science and Technology Human Resources, and Dr. Ajeng Arum Sari, BRIN's Director of Research Funding and Innovation, and several representatives from USU, such as the Rector (Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si), Vice-Rector for Human Resources and Finance (Dr. Muhammad Arifin Nasution, S.Sos., M.SP), Vice-Rector for Research, Community Service, and Cooperation (Prof. Dr. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, S.Si., M.Si., Apt.), Vice-Rector for Asset and Business Management (Dr. Ir. Luhut Sihombing, M.P), and University Secretary (Prof. Dr. Muhammad Fidel Ganis Siregar, M.Ked(OG), Sp. OG(K)-Fer).

 

In his remarks, the USU Rector expressed his pride for the awards received by USU and researchers who have contributed to various studies. "Congratulations to USU and the researchers who received the award. Hopefully, the research will positively impact the wider community," said the Rector through the Zoom meeting platform.

 

 

The names of the USU Top Co-authors with the most publications with BRIN are Apri Heri Iswanto (53 joint publications), Arida Susilowati (21 joint publications), Prana Ugiana Gio (16 joint publications), and Mohammad Basyuni (16 joint publications). Meanwhile, BRIN's Top Co-authors with the most publications with USU are Muhammad Adly Rahandi Lubis (40 joint publications). On this occasion, USU also received appreciation as one of BRIN 2024's Top Collaborators thanks to its active contribution to joint publications with BRIN).

In addition to the award presentation, the event was filled with a public lecture by the Head of BRIN, Laksana Tri Handoko, who raised the theme "Structuring Research and Innovation Towards a Golden Indonesia 2045". In the public lecture, Laksana Tri Handoko emphasized the importance of systematically structuring research and innovation to support Indonesia's target of becoming the fifth-largest economy in the world by 2045. "Strong research and sustainable innovation are the main keys to driving science and technology-based economic growth," Laksana Tri Handoko explained.

 

 

In the Talkshow session, Edy Giri explained the importance of strengthening National Talent Management (MTN) for research and innovation, where BRIN is committed to creating and enhancing science and technology human resources (HR) through a structured approach, from breeding to strengthening superior talent. "BRIN offers various support schemes, including Degree by Research, Research Assistantship, Postdoctoral Fellow, and Visiting Researcher, all designed to improve the qualifications and competencies of science and technology human resources in Indonesia," explained Edy.

 

 

Dr. Ajeng Arum Sari, Director of Research and Innovation Funding at BRIN, also explained various research funding programs, such as Research and Innovation for Advanced Indonesia (RIIM), which supports research in food, health, energy, and scientific expeditions. Collaboration with USU in various research fields is expected to accelerate the achievement of the Golden Indonesia 2045 target through innovative research that is globally competitive.
