The Vice Rector for Research, Community Service, and Cooperation at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), Prof. Dr. Apt. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, M.Si., officially signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with three renowned universities from the Republic of Turkey. The signing occurred during a welcome dinner held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at Legend International Hall "Rahmat" International Wildlife Museum & Gallery, Medan.

The Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Turkey, Dr. H. Rahmat Shah, attended the event for the island of Sumatra. The presence of the Turkish university delegates underscored the significance of strengthening bilateral educational ties between Indonesia and Turkey, particularly between USU and higher education institutions.

The three partner universities are Kayseri University, Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University, and Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University. The collaboration encompasses various academic and research development initiatives, including student and faculty exchanges, joint research projects, dual degree programs, co-hosted seminars and conferences, and other mutually agreed areas of cooperation.

Prof. Poppy emphasized that this partnership is a strategic step for USU in realizing its vision of becoming a world-class university. "International collaboration is key to enhancing competitiveness and quality in higher education. This MoU signing is not merely symbolic—it reflects our commitment to creating more academic and research opportunities for the USU academic community," she stated.

As host, Dr. Rahmat Shah highlighted the importance of strengthening international relations through education and knowledge exchange.

This partnership is expected to begin numerous cross-border academic activities that will increase USU's international exposure and contribute to achieving the university's Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

Through this collaboration, USU expands its international network and paves the way for its students and faculty to enhance their academic capabilities on a global stage. This initiative is crucial to USU's internationalization strategy and reinforces its position in the global higher education landscape.
