USU Supports Universitas Klabat in Establishing a Nationally Standardized Faculty of Medicine Through MoU and MoA Signing

Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) and Universitas Klabat (Unklab) officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) on Friday, August 8, 2025, at the Universitas Klabat Administration Building, North Minahasa. This agreement marks the beginning of a strategic collaboration in the fields of the Tridharma of Higher Education, particularly in enhancing human resource (HR) quality within the medical education sector.
The MoU was signed by the Rector of Universitas Klabat, Rev. Danny I. Rantung, MBA, PhD, and the Rector of Universitas Sumatera Utara, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., represented by the Vice Rector III for Research, Community Service, and Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, S.Si., M.Si., Apt. Meanwhile, the MoA was signed by the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs of Universitas Klabat, Prof. Ronny H. Walean, MBA, PhD, and the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, USU, Prof. Dr. dr. Aldy Safruddin Rambe, Sp.S(K).
Also present from USU were the Vice Rector V for Asset and Business Management, Dr. Ir. Luhut Sihombing, M.P., and representatives from the Faculty of Medicine. From Universitas Klabat, attendees included the vice rectors — Prof. Ronny H. Walean, MBA, PhD (Academic Affairs); Brain Kaparang, SE, MM (Finance); and Rev. Edgar Tauran, M.Div, DMiss (Student Affairs).
Prof. Poppy Anjelisa stated that this partnership represents a strategic step for USU in expanding its network and contributing to the improvement of higher education quality across Indonesia. “This collaboration not only strengthens the Tridharma of Higher Education but also creates opportunities for human resource development, faculty exchanges, and academic program enhancement, which will directly impact the quality of graduates,” she remarked.
According to the MoU, both universities have agreed to collaborate in education, research, community service, innovation development, and other mutually beneficial areas. The MoA, as a direct implementation of the MoU, specifically outlines the cooperation between USU’s Faculty of Medicine and Universitas Klabat in fostering and developing human resources to support the establishment of a new Faculty of Medicine at Unklab.
Prof. Dr. dr. Aldy Safruddin Rambe, Sp.S(K), elaborated that the scope of the collaboration includes the development of teaching and administrative staff competencies, postgraduate education for Unklab lecturers at USU, recruitment and mentoring of lecturers, and faculty exchange programs. “We are committed to supporting Unklab in meeting national medical education standards while ensuring the quality of learning and academic services,” he explained.
Rector of Universitas Klabat, Rev. Danny I. Rantung, expressed his appreciation for the partnership. “This collaboration with USU is a valuable opportunity to strengthen our academic capacity, particularly in preparing a Faculty of Medicine that excels and competes at both national and international levels,” he stated.
The signing ceremony concluded with an exchange of souvenirs and a group photo session involving university leaders from both institutions, symbolizing a shared commitment to fostering a productive, sustainable, and impactful collaboration for the advancement of higher education in Indonesia.
