USU Vice Rector III Welcomes Inbound Student Delegation from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia

Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) warmly welcomed the arrival of an inbound student delegation from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) on Friday (07/26/2024). The welcoming event took place in the Rector's Audience Room, 3rd floor of the USU Rectorate Building, led by the Vice Rector III for Research, Community Service, and Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Apt. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, M.Si.

The inbound student delegation from UKM, consisting of 10 students, was accompanied by several UKM academic officials. UKM was represented by Prof. Dr Kadaruddin Aiyub, Dean of the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities, accompanied by Prof. Dr Sity Daud, Prof. Madya Dr Wan Shahrazad Wan Sulaiman, Prof. Madya Dr Azlan Abas, and several other key officials.

 

In her speech, Prof. Poppy welcomed UKM and emphasized the importance of cooperation between the two institutions. "We are delighted that UKM is coming here and welcome this visit. Hopefully, the students from UKM will be comfortable studying here. We also hope that you from UKM can provide suggestions and input if there is anything to be improved from USU and services in receiving inbound students from UKM.

 

Prof. Poppy also expressed her hope that UKM students feel comfortable and can use this opportunity to broaden their horizons in a different academic environment. 

 

On the USU side, Prof. Dra. T. Thyrhaya Zein, M.A., Dean of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences; Dr. Hatta Ridho S.Sos., MSP, Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences; and Arif Nuryawan, S.Hut., M.Si, Secretary of the Directorate of Internationalization and Global Partnerships, attended the event. Their presence shows USU's commitment to establishing closer international cooperation.

In his speech, Prof. Dr. Kadaruddin Aiyub reaffirmed the long-standing good relationship between USU and UKM. "We have been friends for a long time; hopefully, this cooperation will further strengthen the long-standing relationship," said Prof. Kadaruddin. He also revealed that this student exchange program is one of the strategic steps to enrich students' academic and cultural experiences from both universities.

 

After the welcome session, the UKM delegation was invited to visit several faculties at USU, including the Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Psychology, and Faculty of Social & Political Sciences. The visit aimed to provide a further overview of USU's study programs, facilities, and academic environment and deepen the academic relationship between the two universities.

 

This activity strengthens the relationship between USU and UKM and opens up opportunities for cooperation in various fields, including research, student exchange programs, and other academic collaborations. With this visit, it is hoped that a stronger synergy can be created to improve the quality of higher education in both countries.
