Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) welcomed a delegation from PT Gramedia Asri Media for an audience meeting and exploration of further collaboration on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at the Equity Meeting Room, 3rd Floor of the USU Rectorate Building. The meeting was opened by the Manager of Global Partnerships at USU, Prof. Dr. Arida Susilowati, S.Hut., M.Si., who expressed appreciation for Gramedia’s visit as a strategic step to expand the implementation of the cooperation agreement previously signed through the Directorate of Student Achievement and Alumni Relations (Ditmawa) of USU.

Representing Gramedia, Corporate Sales Vice Head Muhammad Rizky Perdana Putra, accompanied by Assistant Manager Ida Bagus Putu Ika Udayanta, Store Manager Andre, Agus Tri, and Supervisor Februari Kurnia Waruwu, delivered a presentation outlining potential collaborative programs with USU.

In its presentation, Gramedia highlighted several collaboration opportunities, including co-publishing programs for members of the academic community and alumni, joint organization of literacy and educational events, opportunities for publishing academic and popular works, as well as the MyValue membership program offering special benefits for lecturers, administrative staff, and alumni. The MyValue Digital Membership has now been integrated with the USU Digital Alumni Card. Alumni who activate their membership through the MyValue application are entitled to various benefits, including discounts of up to 15 percent on Gramedia publications, exclusive shopping vouchers, and access to redeemable points for Kompas Gramedia products.

One of the key points discussed during the meeting was the co-publishing program, which offers USU lecturers the opportunity to publish books in collaboration with Gramedia and expand their distribution network to more than 160 bookstores nationwide. The Vice Dean III of the Faculty of Forestry at USU, Agus Purwoko, expressed his appreciation for this initiative, noting that such collaboration could enhance USU’s academic visibility while improving the quality and reach of faculty publications.

“I see this co-publishing initiative as a valuable opportunity, especially since USU also has USU Press, which has so far published books on a more limited scale. Our hope is that published books will not only be distributed through Gramedia but also clearly reflect USU’s institutional identity. For lecturers, the primary goal is not financial gain, but ensuring that their work has impact and contributes to strengthening USU’s reputation,” Agus Purwoko remarked.

Beyond publication initiatives, Gramedia also introduced the Ruang Baca Gramedia (Gramedia Reading Space) program, a literacy solution that includes the provision of book shelves with 100 selected titles, reading space design, and institutional branding. This program aligns with Gramedia’s Gerakan Nusa Membaca literacy movement and attracted interest from several faculties, as it can be implemented in public campus spaces and service units. Gramedia also reaffirmed its readiness to offer internship opportunities for USU students, which are currently open to students from various academic disciplines.

Furthermore, Gramedia presented the Medical Qur’an initiative, an educational product based on a health-oriented approach that has been widely utilized in hospitals across Java. Rizky Perdana Putra explained that this product could support literacy-based healthcare services within medical institutions. “In several hospitals in Java, the Medical Qur’an has been placed in patient care areas and waiting rooms as part of a health education approach. Perhaps USU Hospital or the Faculty of Cultural Sciences may be interested in facilitating this initiative,” he stated. This collaboration is projected to involve medical faculties, related institutional units, and USU Hospital in the development of literacy-based healthcare services.

Gramedia expressed its commitment to following up on the outcomes of the meeting through technical coordination with relevant units at USU. In response, USU emphasized the importance of formulating clear implementation steps to ensure that the collaboration is effective and beneficial for the academic community. Both parties agreed to proceed to the technical discussion phase in the near future to realize the proposed collaborative programs.
