Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences USU Discusses Mushroom Innovation

On July 11, 2023, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) held an International Summer Course 2023 at the FMIPA USU Hall.

In his speech, Prof. Himsar Ambarita, S.T., M.T., Director of USU's Directorate of Internationalization and Global Partnerships, explained that this activity is part of USU's Strategic Plan (Renstra) which prioritizes internationalization. 

 

He stated that the university's focus in the current Strategic Plan period is internationalization, which involves lecturers in more international activities as well as providing students with opportunities to participate in similar activities.

 

Cut Fatimah Zuhra S.Si., M.Si., Vice Dean I of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science, hoped that the activity's theme "Beneficial of Fungi Innovation and Biodiversity" would generate many new ideas, concepts, and breakthroughs for the development of biological sciences in the future. He expressed his belief that this International Summer Course 2023 will provide valuable contributions in developing the field of biology.

 

The Vice Dean also hoped that this activity would enable Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science students to build relationships with participants from overseas universities during the course of the activity. He described the important benefits of expanding the international student network and mentioned that initiatives like this could continue through the Mobilitas Pendidikan Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program.

The activity took place over 5 days, from July 10 to 14, 2023, and was attended by participants from 26 countries. Some of the countries represented were Pakistan, Burundi, and Madagascar. The Chairperson of the Committee, Liana Dwi Sri Hastuti, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D., also revealed that there was participation from Indonesian students who are currently studying in France.

 

Dr. Miswar Budi Mulya M.Si., expressed his hope to continue cooperation with universities that have been involved in this activity. He also invited other countries to participate in the International Summer Course in the future, hoping that this cooperation can be sustainable and produce wider benefits.

 

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) organized the International Summer Course 2023 at the  Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science USU Hall, Monday (11/07/2023).

 

In his remarks, the Director of the USU Directorate of Internationalization and Global Partnerships, Prof. Himsar Ambarita, ST, MT, explained that this activity was held to realize one of USU's Strategic Plans (Renstra), namely Internationalization.

 

"In the second period of this Strategic Plan, we want to focus on Internationalization. We want to bring what we have. So, the university asked the lecturers to do more international activities and also organized some activities for students to have international activities," he explained.

 

Cut Fatimah Zuhra S.Si., M.Si., as Vice Dean I of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science, hoped that the activity themed "Beneficial of Fungi Innovation and Biodiversity" could produce many new ideas, concepts, and breakthroughs for the development of the field of biology in the future.

 

"I am sure the International Summer Course 2023 organized by the Faculty will be a source of new ideas, concepts, and breakthroughs for the development of biology in the future," he said.

 

He also hoped that the students could establish relationships with participants from foreign universities during the event.

 

"The impact we expect for students in Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science, when this activity is carried out, as I mentioned earlier, there will be a network of students with students from abroad. Of course this is very useful, especially if we can continue with MBKM activities for example," he said.

 

The 5-day event (July 10-14) was attended by participants from 26 countries, including Pakistan, Burundi, and Madagascar. 

 

Committee Chairperson, Liana Dwi Sri Hastuti, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D., said several Indonesian students in France also participated in this activity.

 

"There are 46 people, 26 people from various countries, Pakistan, Burundi, Madagascar, and some of them are Indonesian students in France," she said.

Prof. Miswar Budi Mulya M.Si., also expressed his hope to continue cooperation with universities that have participated and invite other countries to participate in International Summer Course activities in the future.

 

"Our hope, especially from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, is that we will follow up the cooperation of universities that are members of this summer course activity. Now, with this cooperation, we want it to be sustainable," he said.
