International Collaboration: USU Vice Rector III Welcomes Academics from Turkey and Thailand for Academic Partnerships

The Vice Rector for Research, Community Service, and Collaboration at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), Prof. Dr. Apt. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, M.Si., hosted academics Erhan Dogan from Marmara University, Turkey, and Jirayudh Shintuphan from the Institute of Asian Studies, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, on Friday, September 20, 2024. This meeting marked the initial step toward exploring potential collaborations between USU, Marmara University, and Chulalongkorn University.
The academic collaboration discussed included research, faculty and student exchanges, and other academic developments. "We see significant potential to strengthen inter-university collaborations, especially in cross-cultural knowledge exchange and research," stated Prof. Poppy during the meeting.
At 2:00 PM, the two academics shared their knowledge in a public lecture titled "Digital Nomads and Citizenship." The event, held in the USU Academic Senate Hall, was attended by a select audience from the USU Board of Professors. The lecture addressed the phenomenon of digital nomads and the concept of citizenship in the context of globalization and digitalization, exploring its implications for modern societal mobility and identity.
Earlier, on Thursday, September 19, 2024, Erhan Dogan delivered a lecture titled "Secularism in Turkey" at the Arabic Literature Program. His session delved into the history and development of secularism in Turkey and its influence on the country's political and social life. Concurrently, Jirayudh Shintuphan presented a lecture on "Thai Traditional Culture in World Culture Influences" at the History Program, discussing how Thailand's traditional culture interacts with and adapts to global cultural influences.
This series of events aims to strengthen academic ties between USU and international universities while enriching USU students' and academics' understanding of various global issues.
