The Vice Rector III of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) received an audience from the USU Student Representative Council (DPM) on Thursday, March 6, 2025, in the Equity Meeting Room, 3rd Floor of the Rectorate Building. The meeting aimed to introduce the new DPM lineup and discuss the role of students in supporting the Vice Rector III's programs, particularly in the area of community service.

The meeting was led by USU Vice Rector III, Prof. Dr. Apt. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, S.Si., M.Si., Apt., and attended by the Director of the Directorate of Internationalization and Global Partnerships (DIKG), Prof. Dr. Eng. Himsar Ambarita, S.T., M.T., as well as representatives from the USU Student Representative Council (DPM), including the General Chair of DPM USU, Yoel Kevin Sihombing, Chair of Commission II DPM USU, Mubina, and Muhammad Ridho Sinuraya from the Faculty of Medicine DPM USU.

In the meeting, Prof. Poppy explained that the role of Vice Rector III is more focused on managing programs involving faculty, including research, community service, and collaboration. Meanwhile, programs directly related to students fall under the coordination of Vice Rector I. "Nevertheless, collaboration between students and the programs of Vice Rector III can still be established, especially in the area of community service," she stated.

Meanwhile, Prof. Himsar highlighted the role of students in supporting campus ranking and internationalization. "Students contribute about 5% to USU's ranking and internationalization. This can be realized through participation in international academic activities, collaboration with foreign students, and student-generated publications and innovations," he explained.

On this occasion, Prof. Himsar also outlined USU's internationalization achievements so far, particularly in attracting foreign students to participate in activities at USU (inbound) and sending USU students to engage in activities abroad (outbound).

Additionally, the discussion covered KNB (Developing Countries Partnership) scholarship recipients, currently numbering eight, from Bangladesh, Yemen, Palestine, Botswana, Pakistan, and Tanzania. "These KNB students are working on learning Indonesian and have even practiced it in activities at a public middle school. The DPM can help them adapt to the USU academic environment, including being their study partners to improve their Indonesian language skills and collaborating in various other activities," he explained.

The USU Student Representative Council (DPM) also expressed their desire to strengthen the role of students in supporting university programs, both nationally and internationally. The DPM is also expected to serve as an information bridge for students wishing to participate in outbound programs, enabling more USU students to join international programs. The discussion also covered strategic steps that students can take to contribute to community service programs.

With this meeting, it is hoped that better synergy will be created between students and university leadership in implementing strategic programs that support academic development through community service and USU's international reputation.
