Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) received a visit from the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) in an audience held on Thursday (28/03/2024) in the administrative office room on the 3rd floor of the BPA USU Building. Vice Rector III of USU, Prof. Dr. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, S.Si., M.Si., Apt., led the audience to explore potential cooperation in the fields of research and education.
Rudhian Calissma, ERIA's Research Associate, explained the purpose of their visit to USU and the reason for choosing USU as a cooperation partner. "We see great potential in USU's human resources and research facilities, and we believe that cooperation with USU will bring great benefits to both parties."
In addition, USU also plans to gather lecturers who are interested in conducting research or have links to the research topics that ERIA focuses on.
"I researched red cooking oil, which the government is currently socializing for use by the public. This red cooking oil is researched to find a better quality than ordinary cooking oil. Maybe later, our lecturers can collaborate with ERIA," explained Elisa Julianti, Vice Dean III of the Faculty of Agriculture.
During the meeting, ERIA and USU agreed to collaborate through various programs, including an internship program for USU students at ERIA. Dr. Arida Susilowati S.Hut., M.Si, Manager of the Directorate of Internationalization and Global Partnerships, USU, said, "We are very enthusiastic about this internship opportunity as a first step to broaden students' horizons and experience in an international scope."
Additionally, USU expressed hope that ERIA could contribute to the upcoming Summer Course program, both online and face-to-face.
USU and ERIA agreed to explore more cooperation opportunities to strengthen the support of research and education development in both institutions. "We hope this collaboration can be a new milestone in advancing research and education in the ASEAN and East Asia region," said Dr. Anbumozhi, Energy Economist of ERIA.
