USU and H Adam Malik General Hospital Discuss Collaboration in Specialist Medical Education and Research

The Rector of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., held a meeting with the President Director of H Adam Malik General Hospital, Dr. Zainal Safri, M.Ked(PD), Sp.PD-KKV, Sp.JP(K), in the Rector's Audience Room at the BPA Building, USU, on Tuesday (24/09/2024). The meeting aimed to discuss collaboration in specialist medical education, research, and the improvement of healthcare services. This meeting marks the initial step toward strengthening the partnership between USU and H Adam Malik General Hospital, particularly in supporting education and research development in the healthcare sector.

The meeting was attended by key representatives from H Adam Malik General Hospital, including Dr. Faisal Habib, Sp.JP(K), FIHA, Director of Human Resources, Education, and Research, and Dr. Otman Siregar, Sp.OT(K) Spine, Director of Medical and Nursing Services. Meanwhile, representatives from USU included Vice-Rector V, Dr. Ir. Luhut Sihombing, M.P., Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. dr. Aldy Safruddin Rambe, Sp.S(K), Director of the Directorate of Internationalization and Global Partnerships, Prof. Dr. Eng. Himsar Ambarita, S.T., M.T., and Head of USU's Business Management Agency, Doli Muhammad Jafar Dalimunthe, S.E., M.Si.
 

One of the primary topics discussed was the proposal for educators and attending physicians (DPJP) from USU to teach at H Adam Malik General Hospital. This proposal comes in response to the hospital's need for more educators for specialist medical training, posing challenges in implementing the Specialist Medical Education Program (PPDS). Additionally, issues the Ministry of Health raised regarding medical personnel's eligibility to train PPDS students at H Adam Malik General Hospital were addressed.

 

The Rector of USU and Dr. Zainal Safri also discussed solutions for PPDS admissions and the current number of educators at H Adam Malik General Hospital. The university determines PPDS admission quotas and distributes them across several teaching hospitals, including H Adam Malik General Hospital. Therefore, the distribution of admission quotas between the hospital and other teaching hospitals in North Sumatra was a focal point of the discussion.

Furthermore, both parties highlighted the importance of collaborative research and publications between USU and H Adam Malik General Hospital. The USU rector emphasized the need for collaboration with practizing doctors at H Adam Malik General Hospital to support high-quality research and scientific publications.

 

The meeting also addressed drafting a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that would include improvements to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), particularly those related to preventing undesirable incidents, such as previous cases of bullying. The Rector of USU underscored the importance of thoroughly discussing SOPs to ensure similar incidents do not recur.

 

This meeting serves as a significant milestone in efforts to strengthen the collaboration between USU and H Adam Malik General Hospital. The outcomes of the discussions are expected to be promptly implemented to enhance the quality of education, research, and healthcare services in North Sumatra.
