Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) met with Kaizen Room via Zoom on Thursday (12/09/2024) to discuss potential collaborations in developing soft skills for lecturers and students. Prof. Dr. Eng. Himsar Ambarita, ST., MT., Director of USU's Directorate of Internationalization and Global Partnerships, led the meeting.
Several officials from both parties attended the meeting. Representing USU were Dr. Arida Susilowati, S.Hut., M.Si., Global Partnerships Manager, Muhammad Rafli, S.H., and Nurul Pratiwi from the Directorate of Internationalization and Global Partnerships. From the Kaizen Room, Ismita Saputri and Aidil Wicaksono participated in and presented various soft skills development programs.
During the meeting, Kaizen Room offered programs focusing on soft skills development, particularly for students and lecturers. Soft skills are considered critical elements that the younger generation must master to face global competition and an increasingly competitive workforce. The programs offered by Kaizen Room include training in communication, managerial skills, problem-solving, and leadership.
"Developing soft skills is crucial in preparing students and lecturers to face global challenges. We hope that through this collaboration, we can create a more prepared generation to manage both professional and academic responsibilities," said Aidil.
Prof. Himsar expressed USU's enthusiasm for Kaizen Room's initiative and highlighted the significant potential for collaboration. "We are interested in the various programs offered by Kaizen Room. However, further discussions are needed to ensure this collaboration runs optimally and provides substantial benefits," he stated.
The meeting also explored opportunities to expand the scope of future collaboration between USU and Kaizen Room, including the potential for workshops, seminars, and informal educational activities. One of the main proposed agendas was drafting a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen the formal framework for this partnership.
During the discussion session, several proposals were shared regarding online and onsite training programs to be conducted on USU's campus. Additionally, both parties discussed the possibility of intensive programs for lecturers and students interested in specialized skill development.
This meeting is expected to be a positive first step for USU and Kaizen Room in fostering a more competent generation ready to innovate and equipped with strong non-technical skills to navigate the digital and globalized era.
