Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) received a visit from Prof. Marlené Belly, International Relation for Indonesia from Universite de Poitiers, France, in an audience that took place on Tuesday (12/11/2024) at the Equity Meeting Room, USU Rectorate Building. The visit was welcomed by Arif Nuryawan, S.Hut., M.Si., Ph.D., Secretary of the USU Directorate of Internationalization and Global Partnerships. Also attended by Prof. Dr. Dra. T. Thyrhaya Zein, M.A., Dean of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) USU, along with Prof. Drs. Mauly Purba, M.A., Ph.D., Vice Dean I FIB, and Lui Ribka Hutahayan, Staff of the Directorate of Internationalization and Global Partnerships.

In this meeting, both parties discussed opportunities for academic cooperation between USU and Universite de Poitiers. Prof. Marlené Belly expressed the Universite de Poitiers' interest in establishing cooperation in various fields, including student and staff mobility programs, joint research, and collaboration under the Erasmus + program. "We see great potential in collaboration with USU, especially in student and staff exchanges that can enrich the academic experience of both institutions," said Prof. Marlené.

The student and staff mobility program will allow students and staff from both universities to exchange academic experiences. USU students can attend lectures and academic programs at the Universite de Poitiers, while students from the Universite de Poitiers can do the same at USU. The program also includes staff mobility, where lecturers and education personnel can visit partner universities to share knowledge, practices and professional academic development.

Joint research cooperation will involve research projects between researchers and academics from USU and Universite de Poitiers. The research aims to increase the quality and number of scientific publications, expand international research networks, and support the development of relevant science in both countries.

Erasmus+ allows both universities to access funding within the Erasmus+ program, which supports education, training, youth, and sports in Europe. This agreement opens up funding opportunities for student and staff mobility programs and other collaborative projects. With this agreement, USU students and staff can gain fully-funded international experience, while lecturers and education personnel can participate in training and professional development at Universite de Poitiers.

Arif Nuryawan welcomed the offer and emphasized that USU is committed to strengthening its international network to improve the quality of education and research. "This collaboration is very much in line with USU's internationalization vision, which aims to expand opportunities for students and staff to gain global academic experience," said Arif Nuryawan.
