USU Hosts Indonesia Research Summit 2025, Promotes Quality Publications and International Collaboration

Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) hosted the Indonesia Research Summit 2025 with the theme "Innovating Academic Research: Pathways to Higher Impact Publications, Local Innovations, and Advancing Sustainable Development." The event took place on Thursday (27/02/2025) on the 8th floor of the Digital Learning Center Building, USU campus, bringing together speakers from national and international research institutions to discuss strategies for improving research quality, scientific publications, and academic collaboration.
The event opened with remarks from Ruchi Chauhan, Head of Global Marketing at Editage, who highlighted the importance of high-quality publications in enhancing global academic reputation. She also emphasized Editage's commitment to supporting researchers in Indonesia. "Through Editage initiatives, we strive to provide more personalized and strategic services for Indonesian academics to improve the quality of their publications in reputable international journals," she stated.
Indonesia Research Summit 2025 featured two main workshop sessions. The first workshop, themed "Decentralized Approaches to Research and Development," hosted three speakers: Prof. Dr. Agus Haryono, M.Sc. (Deputy for Research and Innovation Facilitation, National Research and Innovation Agency), Prof. I Ketut Adnyana, M.Si., Ph.D. (Director of Research and Community Service, Directorate General of Research and Development, Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology), and Prof. Dr. Eng. Himsar Ambarita, S.T., M.T. (Director of Internationalization and Global Partnerships, USU). Moderated by Prof. Dr. Ir. Fahmi S.T., M.Sc., IPM, the session explored strategies to enhance research quality through decentralized approaches that empower universities to manage research and innovation resources more independently.
In his presentation, Prof. Dr. Agus Haryono, M.Sc., highlighted that research and innovation funding is increasingly accessible through digital platforms. "Through the funding portal pendanaan-risnov.brin.go.id, researchers can access various funding schemes to support research and innovation at national and international levels," he explained.
The second workshop, moderated by Prof. Dr. Erman Munir M.Sc and titled "Strengthening International Collaboration through Research," brought together experts from renowned Indonesian universities, including Prof. Hery Purnobasuki, M.Si., Ph.D. (Head of Innovation, Journal Development, Publishing, and Intellectual Property Rights, Universitas Airlangga), Prof. Dr. Sugeng Heri Suseno, S.Pi., M.Si. (Deputy Head of Research, IPB University), Prof. Dr. Techn. Marzuki, S.Si, M.Sc. Eng. (Head of Community Service, Universitas Andalas), as well as representatives from Editage.
Discussions in this session focused on increasing Indonesian academics' engagement in cross-border collaborative research and strategies to enhance the competitiveness of publications in reputable international journals.
"Research and community service are essential for advancing science and technology, improving community welfare, and strengthening national competitiveness," said Prof. Marzuki.
Through the Indonesia Research Summit 2025, USU aims to serve as a bridge connecting academics, researchers, and industries to accelerate innovation and promote research geared toward global solutions. This event is expected to improve the quality of Indonesian research and scientific publications, enabling them to compete globally.
